About Within Reach

Within Reach is a privately operated, non-profit foundation based in Towson, Maryland. Within Reach works closely with the American Cancer Society to enhance its Reach to Recovery program, which provides peer support and education to breast cancer patients. Within Reach and the American Cancer Society have also developed the Recovery Coach program, which provides peer support and education to persons facing cancer of the colon, prostate, lung, esophagus, or head and neck, or non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Within Reach works with the American Cancer Society to:

•  introduce the Reach to Recovery and Recovery Coach programs to health care providers in the greater Baltimore area and the entire South Atlantic region of the U.S.,

•  establish systems for those health care providers to

(1) identify cancer patients who could benefit from peer support,
(2) refer those patients to Reach to Recovery or to the Recovery Coach program, and
(3) recruit, from the health care provider’s own pool of patients, volunteers who might 
be well suited to counsel the health care providers’ patients.

In addition, Within Reach:

•  partners with Let’s Dish to provide certain patients referred to Reach to Recovery with 
frozen, prepared meals. 

•  produces a series of lectures, presented on a quarterly basis, by experts in the areas of cancer diagnosis, treatment,
and survivorship.

•  promotes the Reach to Recovery and Recovery Coach programs in various forums.
